Rabbit Skin Glue
Rabbit Skin Glue is a ground for oil paintings on cotton duck canvas, linen and polycotton blend which forms an isolation layer between the oil paint and the canvas.
Items required for preparation
- Rabbit skin glue flakes
- Water
- A double boiler, or a bowl over a saucepan, or an electric slow cooker
Preparation
- The ratio of water to rabbit skin glue flakes is 10:1 by weight.
- Soak the glue flakes in enough cold water to cover them
- Stir to disolve the flakes and add all the water
- Heat the glue in a double boiler until all the flakes have fully disolved. Never allow the glue to boil.
- Store in a covered container over night in the refrigerator. When cooled it will set like jelly.
